Les Claypool Shares Update On Long-Awaited Primus Documentary

17

Les Claypool may be focusing on the return of Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade this year but his son is hard at work on a Primus documentary. The Primus vocalist/bassist shared an update on the long-in-the-making and as of yet untitled film during an interview with GRAMMY.com.

Claypool first revealed his son, filmmaker Cage Claypool, is putting together a Primus documentary while chatting with Kyle Meredith in March 2022. Cage was in the middle of interviewing figures in the Primus universe at that time.

Now, Les has confirmed director Jimmy Hayward is co-helming the Primus documentary with Cage Claypool. Primus’ only gig of 2023 was a benefit to raise funds for Hayward, who is current receiving cancer treatment, held at The Belasco in Los Angeles on April 17.

Over 900 hours of footage has been digitalized for the project. “There’s a lot of footage he’s been going through and he’s been interviewing all kinds of people,” Les Claypool told GRAMMY.com. “I was hoping it would have been out this summer, but now it looks like next summer, hopefully.”

Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade’s first tour in 20 years resumes tonight at the scenic KettleHouse Amphitheatre in Bonner, Montana. The Summer Of Green Tour 2023 runs until July 15. After a few months off, the group returns to the road for The Hunt For Green October Tour. A full list of Les Claypool tour dates can be found by scrolling below.
