Ozzy Osbourne has pulled out of the inaugural Power Trip festival. Osbourne was one of six legendary rock acts aboard for the three-day event at Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California between October 6 – 8. Power Trip organizers Golden Voice are expected to name a replacement soon.

In a statement announcing the decision, Ozzy explained he initially planned to return to the stage next summer but couldn’t resist when the offer to play Power Trip came in. “Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed,” Osbourne wrote.

While Ozzy wouldn’t reveal the band that will be replacing him, he noted “they are personal friends of mine and I can promise that you will not be disappointed.” Osbourne, who canceled all tour dates and announced his retirement from touring this past February, has been dealing with a string of health issues that include a spinal injury suffered four years ago.

Ozzy Osbourne made two appearances and released a studio album entitled Patient Number 9 in 2022. He played its title track and “Crazy Train” during halftime of the NFL season opener on September 8. One month earlier he reunited with Black Sabbath co-founder to perform “Paranoid” and “Iron Man” at the closing ceremonies of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Power Trip begins on October 6 with performances from Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden. Then, AC/DC and Osbourne’s replacement will play the Empire Polo Grounds on October 7 before Metallica and Tool close out the festival on October 8. Buy Power Trip packages via AXS.com.
