The Motet has announced the addition of powerhouse singer Sarah Clarke to the band’s lineup.

A seasoned pro based in Portland, OR, Clarke has earned acclaim as one of the Pacific Northwest’s top talents with her otherworldly vocal chops and captivating stage presence. She has fronted bands including PNW jazz/funk supergroup Outer Orbit, Portland neo-soul band Dirty Revival, and Bay Area soul/R&B group Con Brio. She also “sometimes” does background vocals for Portland-based indie legends Portugal. The Man.

Clarke has been on the road with The Motet for the past month, blowing the roof off iconic venues like New York’s Blue Note Jazz Club and wowing festival audiences at Resonance Music Festival, Elevation Music Festival, and more.

Clarke marks the third vocalist to join The Motet on a permanent basis in the band’s storied 25-year career. After beginning as an instrumental funk collective in Boulder, CO in 1998, the group soon added vocalist/percussionist Jans Ingber who sang with the band until his departure in 2015. That next year, The Motet introduced audiences to Lyle Divinsky, who would front the group up until October 2020 when he and the band parted ways. After three years of employing a revolving cast of singers—including Cool Cool Cool‘s Sammi Garett and Shira Elias (formerly of Turkuaz)—or performing instrumentally, The Motet has found its new voice in Sarah Clarke.
