The Peach Music Festival returned to Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA for its 2023 edition over the weekend. For four days and nights, music cascaded down the ski resort, as the Allman Brothers Band-founded festival presented headlining sets from Goose, Ween, My Morning Jacket, and Tedeschi Trucks Band.
Goose topped the Thursday night soft opening of The Peach, playing two sets on the festival’s main Peach Stage which was the only one in operation for the first day. Underneath the massive canopy structure, Twiddle, Thumpasarus, and a Friends of the Brothers ABB tribute set eased fans in for a long weekend.
On Friday, The Peach Festival fully opened for business as the Peach Stage, Mushroom Stage, and the Grove Stage presented non-stop music from 12:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. Highlights included Ween’s debut on the mountain along with sets from festival favorites Umphrey’s McGee, TAUK with Kanika Moore, Karina Rykman, Trouble No More, Dogs In A Pile, Yam Yam, and dueling late-night sets by Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country and LP Giobbi‘s Dead House.
Saturday presented a diverse array of artists who color outside the explicit lines of the jam band scene with sets by headliner My Morning Jacket along with Lawrence, Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, festival madman Andy Frasco & The U.N. (who crowd surfed from the stage, across the pavilion, and to the lawn in 3:24 minutes), and many others, along with Phish bassist Mike Gordon. Late-night revelers were once again offered two distinct choices for after-hours entertainment, with The Australian Pink Floyd Show on the main stage and Magic City Hippies keeping folks dancing over on the lazy river-adjacent Mushroom Stage.
Despite some lingering rain clouds, the fourth and final day of The Peach went off with minimal interruptions. Spiritual Sunday included sets from headliner Tedeschi Trucks Band along with reggae legacy Ziggy Marley, future funk/hip-hop sextet Lettuce, blues torchbearer Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and more. Sunday’s TTB set marked Derek Trucks‘ first trip back to The Peach since playing the festival with the Allman Brothers back in 2014. Read more about the Tedeschi Trucks Band finale here.
