Soul music legend and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Al Green has shared a cover of “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed, his first new single in five years.
Recorded at Memphis’ Sam Phillips Recording studio, the song features The Hi Rhythm Section that served as the house band for some of Green’s most iconic records as well as background vocals from U.K. alt-R&B artist RAYE. The track arrives half a decade after Green’s cover of Freddy Fender‘s “Before the Next Teardrop Falls”, which was itself his first new song since a decade prior.
“I loved Lou’s original ‘Perfect Day’. The song immediately puts you in a good mood,” Green said of the track. “We wanted to preserve that spirit, while adding our own sauce and style. I hope this song accompanies you through your perfect days.”
