Brooklyn Bowl will once again host Bowl Hashanah, an event on Rosh Hashanah mixing music, traditional services and lunch. The 12th annual Bowl Hashanah at Brooklyn Bowl’s flagship location in New York City, presented by The Friday Night Jam and FANS.live, begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16.

Rabbi Daniel Brenner will lead Rosh Hashanah morning services with musical director Jeremiah Lockwood, Antibalas’ Jordan McLean and Timothy Allen, drummer John Bollinger, saxophonist Stuart Bogie and Yula Berri on vocals and bass. Additionally, Taper’s Choice/Darkside member Dave Harrington, Taper’s Choice/Real Estate member Alex Bleeker, Dr. Dog member and Kevin Morby collaborator Eric Slick and Will Epstein will all make guest appearances.

Afro-beat group Armo will also perform a spiritual set, while Internationally-based teacher Aliza Rivka will lead a guided meditation. There will be torah reading and procession led by Rabbi Brenner, as well as prayer, shofar blowing and meditation. Lunch will be provided by Blue Ribbon after services at 12:30 p.m. with purchase of a ticket.

All proceeds will go towards the non-profit organization Shalom Y’all Jams, which works to organize holiday services at non-traditional locations. Purchase Bowl Hashanah tickets now.

“We have said for years that Brooklyn Bowl is our sanctuary, clubhouse, church and synagogue, so it only makes sense that it has grown into the spiritual home for our musically inclined Rosh Hashanah services over the years,” explained Relix’s Editor-in-Chief Mike Greenhaus. “Especially at a time when so many of us have been apart from our friends and family due to the pandemic, we hope that our suite of traditional-but-open-minded-and-inclusive services will allow us to connect with each other as we ‘begin again’ at the start of this new year.”

FANS.live will broadcast Bowl Hashanah live from Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. The Friday Night Jam and FANS.live also have other spiritually and musically inclined High Holiday Services to stream starting with a first Rosh Hashanah service on Friday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. ET, Kol Nidre on Sunday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT and Yom Kippur on Monday, September 25 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.
