Singer-songwriter Allison Russell is featured on the latest episode of the national radio program and podcast eTown. Russell and fellow special guest Parker Millsap taped the eTown On The Road installment at The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas. Russell’s appearance included a performance of “Nightflyer,” a song that changed her life in some of the best ways possible.

Allison Russell wrote and recorded “Nightflyer” for inclusion on her 2021 debut solo album, Outside Child. “Nightflyer” was nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards in both the Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance categories, while Outside Child was up for the Best Americana Album award that same year. Though Russell didn’t take home any Grammys, Outside Child won UK Americana, Canadian Folk, Juno, Folk Alliance and Americana Music Honors awards.

“This song really changed our lives and it brought us to the Grammys and the Juno Awards and the Americana Awards on both sides of the Atlantic and the International Folk Awards and the Canadian Folk Awards and it’s taken us to the Libera Awards,” Allison Russell noted before singing “Nightflyer” with members of her “circle of Goddesses” ensemble. “It’s been very surreal. We’re so grateful.”

Allison Russell will release The Returner, the long-awaited follow-up to Outside Child on September 8 via Fantasy Records. Russell’s eTown set included the title track from the forthcoming album as well as The Returner cut “Demons” and songs from Outside Child For the finale, Russell, Millsap and the eTown House Band joined forces on a cover of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.”
