Watch Dave Matthews Band Perform ‘Spoon’ For 1st Time Since 2019

Dave Matthews Band began the West Coast leg of their summer tour last night in Highland, California. The septet dusted off “Spoon” from their 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets late in the show at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel four years to the day after the song was previously played.

Thursday’s show opened with a run of “Virginia In The Rain,” “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back)” and “When The World Ends.” DMB then looked to their recently released studio album Walk Around The Moon for “Madman’s Eyes.” Other songs from the LP played last night in Highland were “The Only Thing,” the title track and “Looking For A Vein.” The rest of the main set on Thursday was heavy on classics including Under The Table & Dreaming standouts “What Would You Say,” “Dancing Nancies” and “Warehouse.”

“Spoon” was trotted out in the 13-slot last night. While the song was frequently played in 1999, versions of “Spoon” have been few and far between ever since. The last performance came on August 24, 2019 at Fiddler’s Green near Denver. Beloved favorites “Lie In Our Graves” and “Grey Street” followed the bust out to close the set.

The aforementioned “Looking For A Vein” kicked off an encore that also featured “All Along The Watchtower” complete with a bit of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven.” Watch fan-shot footage of DMB performing “Spoon” in Highland last night below:
