Peter Rowan was among the guests on the latest episode of nationally syndicated radio show eTown. The legendary musician and singer-songwriter teamed up with eTown hosts Nick Forster and Helen Forster for a rendition of his classic “Mississippi Moon” and more.
“Mississippi Moon” originally appears on Seatrain’s early 1970s self-titled album, the Bay Area band’s first after adding Peter Rowan to the lineup following his stint with Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys. A few years later, it was also in the Old & In The Way live repertoire and Peter’s Old & In The Way bandmate Jerry Garcia included the tune on his 1974 solo album, Compliments. The Grateful Dead guitarist would perform the song through most of his solo career.
For the eTown performance, Rowan picked up his mandolin accompanied by Nick Forster on guitar and Helen Forster on harmony vocals among others. Watch Peter Rowan perform “Mississippi Moon” on eTown below:
