32

Organizers of the ever-eclectic Big Ears Festival laid out the lineup of nearly 200 events that will go down at more than a dozen venues between March 21 – 24, 2024. Jazz icon Herbie Hancock and Led Zeppelin co-founder John Paul Jones are atop the massive bill.

John Paul Jones will play a solo set and team with Anssi Karttunen for the debut U.S. performance of their Songs Of Chipotle project. Big Ears 2024 will also host performances by Laurie Anderson, Fred Frith, Unwound, Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief), Digable Planets, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, Shabaka Hutchings, Christian McBride, Mary Halvorson, Julian Lage, Cyro Baptista and hundreds of other artists.

Rhiannon Giddens will serve as the festival’s artist-in-residence, while innovative DJ and producer King Britt will curate a 14-artist, four-day Blacktronika program. Additionally, Big Ears will host a celebration of Nonesuch Records’ 60th anniversary featuring performances by the likes of Giddens, Tuttle, Halvorson, Anderson, Brad Mehldau, Caroline Shaw, Darcy James Argue, Davóne Tines, Sam Amidon, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Yasmin Williams.

Though the 2024 Big Ears Festival lineup touches upon many different genres, there’s plenty of jazz artists aboard besides the aforementioned acts including greats Charles Lloyd, Jason Moran and Dave Holland. More artists and programming will be added in the months to come.

“Big Ears is conceived as an adventure,” noted founder and artistic director Ashley Capps. “It’s an opportunity to hear the world’s most exciting musical creators as well as to open up to new ideas and experiences. It spurs the imagination and nourishes the soul. That’s the real magic of Big Ears.”

Passes for the four-day event will be available starting at 9 a.m. ET this Thursday, September 14. Buy Big Ears Festival tickets via Front Gate Tickets.
