Big Something has begun the rollout of the band’s new album, Headspace, with the first single, “The Mountain”. Along with the release of each single from the album, Big Something is spotlighting different nonprofit organizations helping people navigate mental health and wellness, which is a major theme of the album. With the release of “The Mountain”, the band is highlighting the work of Sound Mind Live, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering community, dialogue, and action on mental health through music.

“This song features some of the last lyrics we have written in a journal from our lyricist Paul Interdonato,” the band wrote of the single. Interdonato passed away in 2017 at the age of 33. “’Coming up the mountain, I can see it all again.’ We started with those simple words from Paul that he wrote as a metaphor for overcoming trauma. Then our dear friend Justin Osborne from Susto helped us finish the song.

“As we release this track we are honored to spotlight Sound Mind Live, a non-profit organization that catalyzes action on mental health through the power of music. Sound Mind events and programs create safe spaces where music and open conversations about mental health coexist through collaboration between artists, audiences, and access to direct mental health support.”

The track also arrives alongside a music video featuring singer/guitarist Nick MacDaniels hiking through scenic landscapes of Telluride, CO and New River Gorge in West Virginia. Those visuals are interspersed with live footage from several Big Something shows filmed over the summer, showcasing the band’s electrifying live presence.

Headspace, Big Something’s seventh studio album, is due for release on November 17th. The project includes a collection of 12 songs “exploring the human mind” and features artwork by Roberlan Paresqui.

“Most of the material was written within the past few years as the world emerged from a strange moment in history,” the band wrote in the album announcement. “During that time we became more and more inspired by the ongoing conversations happening about mental health.”

To celebrate the album’s release, Big Something, including new bass player Matt Laird, will embark on the Headspace Tour, which will mark the band’s first major headlining tour after developing a devoted following over the past 12 years. The Ries Brothers will provide support on select dates. The band will once again return to the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC to ring in the new year December 29th–31st. Details have yet to be announced for Big Something’s 10th-anniversary edition of The Big What? curated festival, which took a hiatus in 2023 in order to plan a proper ten-year celebration in 2024.
