Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann will finally bring Billy & The Kids back to his original home state of California for a pair of Halloween Week concerts. Additionally, Kreutzmann put together an all-star band to play two benefit concerts in his current home state of Hawaii later this month.
Kreutzmann and “Kids” bassist Reed Mathis, guitarist Tom Hamilton, keyboardist Aron Magner and percussionist Jeff Franca will celebrate Halloween with a show on October 31 at Bay Area venue The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. Then, the group will perform on the “Day Of The Dead,” November 2, at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. Special guests are expected at both concerts.
The newly-confirmed concerts are the “Treat” installment of the “Daze Of The Dead” series of Billy & The Kids performances that begin at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on October 20 and 21. Kreutzmann’s announcement of The Capitol Theatre shows hinted at the group’s first performances in California since April 2016 concerts at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley and The Warfield in San Francisco.
“Why celebrate just one Day of the Dead when you can celebrate the Dead for days? Four days, to be precise. Four days, three venues, two coasts,” Kreutzmann wrote in detailing “Daze Of The Dead, Part 2: Treat” on social media. “For all of these shows, we will honor the Dead by being very much alive. Because when we dance, we are all together, we are all one. And, together, we are the very spirit of the Grateful Dead,” added Kreutzmann who invited fans to dress in costume.

Up next for the Grateful Dead co-founding drummer is Bill Kreutzmann’s Grateful Mantra, a pair of local community benefits at The Porter Pavilion in Kilauea, Hawaii on the island of Kauai. Kreutzmann will be joined at the shows on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 by Billy & The Kids bassist Reed Mathis, ALO guitarist Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Circles Around The Sun keyboardist Adam MacDougall and vocalist/guitarist Stephen Inglis. Hawaii’s own Kanekoa will open each show.
