Hear Roger Waters Reimagine ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ Cuts ‘Speak To Me’ & ‘Breathe’

Roger Waters shared new versions of “Speak To Me” and “Breathe,” the first two tracks from his forthcoming album, The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux. The reworking of the classic Pink Floyd album is due out via SGB Music on October 6.

Pink Floyd originally released The Dark Side Of The Moon in 1973. Waters decided to offer a new interpretation of the LP in celebration of its 50th anniversary. “Speak To Me” and “Breathe” follow previously shared Redux tracks “Time” and “Money.”

“The original Dark Side Of The Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition,” explained Roger Waters in a press release. “But Dave, Rick, Nick and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started to consider what the wisdom of an 80-year-old could bring to a reimagined version.

“When I first mentioned the idea of re-recording The Dark Side Of The Moon to Gus [Seyffert] and Sean [Evans], we all thought I was mad, but the more we considered it, the more we thought, ‘Isn’t that the whole point?’” Waters added. “I’m immensely proud of what we have created, a work that can sit proudly alongside the original, hand-in-hand across a half-century of time.”

Roger Waters recruited members of his touring band to back him on The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux. The album, which ends with a new 13-minute original composition inspired by the re-recording, was produced by Gus Seyffert and Roger Waters.

The instrumental “Speak To Me” was credited to Nick Mason on the Pink Floyd album. Roger Waters worked in lyrics from Obscured By Clouds track “Free Four” into the Redux version. The song then fades into “Breathe.”

Roger Waters will perform The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux live at the London Palladium in London on October 8 and 9. He’ll then bring his This Is Not A Drill Tour to South America.
