The Kinks shared a previously unreleased live version of “Everybody’s a Star (Starmaker)” from London’s New Victoria Theatre in 1975. The track is set for the legendary British band’s The Journey – Part 2, due out in 2-CD, 2-LP and digital formats on November 17 via BMG.
The Kinks curated, non-linear The Journey anthology series comes as part of the band’s 60th anniversary celebration. The group released The Journey – Part 1 in March.
The Journey Part – Part 2 boasts Kinks favorites including “Lola” “Sunny Afternoon,” “20th Century Man,” “Dedicated Follower Of Fashion,” “Till The End Of The Day,” “A Well Respected Man” and “See My Friends.” The collection also contains singles, B-sides and six new mixes from primary songwriter Ray Davies three of which are previously unreleased live performances from London’s New Victoria Theatre in 1975 including the new release of “Everybody’s a Star (Starmaker) (Live 1975, 2023 Mix).”
“I thought I knew everything about my songs until I was given the opportunity to put this record together,” Ray noted. “The new sequencing has enabled us to show the ‘big picture’ and give a more insightful back story about how our music evolved. I learned a lot about myself in putting this together.”
