You can’t keep the Prince of Darkness down for long, as Ozzy Osbourne teased in a new interview that he plans to do another tour. In a recent chat with Metal Hammer, the metal legend said he wants to record a new album in 2024 and take it on the road despite announcing his retirement from touring earlier this year.

“I’m getting myself fit,” the 74-year-old former Black Sabbath frontman said. “I’ve done two albums fairly recently, but I want to do one more album and then go back on the road. I’m just starting to work on it now, and we’ll be recording in the early part of next year.”

In recent years, Osbourne has struggled with a number of lingering health problems that have kept him away from large-scale touring since 2018. A 2019 fall left Osbourne with a spinal injury which forced him to postpone a European tour, with the singer last year revealing he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Fortunately, Osbourne successfully underwent surgery earlier this month to correct the spinal injury, an operation he called his “final” surgery.

“I’ve had all the surgery now, thank god,” Osbourne said. “I’m feeling okay—it was just dragging on. I thought I’d be back on my feet months ago, I just couldn’t get used to this mode of living, constantly having something wrong. I can’t walk properly yet, but I’m not in any pain any more and the surgery on my spine went great.”

As far as the recording process, Ozzy plans to once again work with Andrew Watt who produced his last two albums, 2020’s Ordinary Man and 2022’s Grammy-winning Patient Number 9. The Ozzman also revealed that he has outfitted his U.K. home with a recording studio, adding “I want to take my time with this one!”

This news comes after Osbourne in February announced his retirement from the road due to his ongoing health issues. Even in his announcement, however, Osbourne left the door open for the possibility of future live appearances, writing, “My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”

Sure enough, the following month Ozzy announced he would perform his first full set in five years at the new Power Trip festival in Indio, CA. The all-headliner lineup was due to feature other heavy metal heavy hitters including MetallicaIron MaidenTool, and more. Fast forward to July, however, and Osbourne canceled his Power Trip comeback, with the Goldenvoice-produced festival tapping fellow Birmingham heavy metal staple Judas Priest to fill in at the event, set for October 6th–8th.

Ozzy addressed the Power Trip cancellation in the interview, telling fans not to get their hopes up for a guest appearance.

“If I can’t do the gig, I don’t really want to be there,” he admitted. “Plus I know they’ll just be like ‘go on, get Ozzy up’!”
