Pearl Jam Loads Final Show Of 2023 With Tour Debuts

Pearl Jam wrapped up their 2023 Tour last night with their second of two concerts at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Frontman Eddie Vedder told fans to expect a new album from the band in 2024 as Pearl Jam delivered a 27-song performance featuring 10 tour debuts.

Vedder launched Tuesday’s concert with a solo version of Hunters & Collectors’ “Throw Your Arms Around Me” before Inhaler took the stage for their support set. Then, Pearl Jam picked Ten era gem “Wash” to open their two-and-a-half hour performance. “Wash” was the first of the evening’s 2023 debuts and led into a run of “Sometimes,” “Low Light” and “Black.”

Eddie Vedder addressed the crowd after “Black” and noted last night’s concert marked the official end of Pearl Jam’s Gigaton Tour. He noted the tour was the longest in the band’s history due to COVID keeping them from performing in 2020 and 2021. “I think you know we’ve made a record for next year and I won’t give anything away but what I can tell you is if you like the musicians in this group I think you’re gonna hear them play and it just came out really good and you’re gonna hear them playing at their highest level,” Vedder said. “It was a very good collection. So we’re excited about that and excited to see the end of summer with you all.”

Other tour debuts trotted out during Pearl Jam’s main set in Austin last night included Gigaton standout “Never Destination,” “1/2 Full” off 2002’s Riot Act, “Unemployable” from the group’s self-titled 2006 LP, No Code chestnuts “Habit” and “Who Are You” and Vs. rocker “Glorified G.” Pearl Jam last played “Unemployable” back on October 11, 2013 and “Who Are You” had been shelved since April 29, 2016.

Eddie Vedder returned to the stage solo to begin the encore with a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which he last performed at a Pearl Jam concert in 2018. The rest of the band then came back for a “Last Kiss” played in honor of guitarist Mike McCready‘s wife Ashley’s birthday. Pearl Jam continued on by tackling Mother Love Bone’s “Chloe Dancer” and “Crown Of Thorns” for the first time this year. A series of classics such as “State Of Love And Trust,” “Jeremy,” “Alive” and “Yellow Ledbetter” as well as a take on Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” featuring members of Inhaler and John Doe of X brought the evening and tour to a close.
