Phish surprised fans today by announcing the dates and location of their 11th festival. The four-day event will be held at The Woodlands in Dover, Delaware between August 15 – 18, 2024.
The Woodlands is home to the Firefly Music Festival. Firefly was first held in 2012 but was put on hiatus for the 2023 event. Produced by AEG, Firefly is expected back next year. The most recent installment of the Firefly Music Festival took place September 22 – 25, 2022.
Located on the grounds of Dover Motor Speedway , The Woodlands spreads out over 105 acres. Having the speedway adjacent to the site allowed AEG to use some of the track’s infrastructure for both parking and camping. Phish previously only performed twice in Delaware, as they played the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware on February 13, 1993 and April 18, 1994.
The 11th Phish festival was originally supposed to take place August 17 – 19, 2018 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. However the event, dubbed “Curveball,” was canceled by state and local officials.
Phish threw their first festival, Clifford Ball, August 16 – 17, 1996. The events became annual summer traditions through 1999 with another held December 30 – 31 at Big Cypress Indian Reservation in Florida to ring in the 21st century. The 2.0 era saw Phish festivals in Limestone, Maine in 2003 and Coventry, Vermont in 2004. After a five-year breakup, the band resumed the festival tradition with what stands as their only West Coast festival in Indio, California celebrating Halloween 2009. Watkins Glen International hosted the two most recent Phish festivals — 2011’s Superball and Magnaball in 2015.
Each festival comes in addition to a series of destination events held in Mexico. Phish: Riviera Maya was first presented in 2016. Five additional installments followed with the seventh all-inclusive concert vacation slated for February 21 – 24, 2024 at Moon Palace in Cancun.
