Rhythm & Roots Festival returned to the Rhode Island coast over Labor Day Weekend 2023 for a rootsy send-off to summer. The long-running festival which began in 1998 brought top acts Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Greensky Bluegrass, JJ Grey & Mofro, and more to Ninigret Park in Charleston, RI on September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
The festival kicked off on Friday, September 1st with performances by New Orleans staple Dumpstaphunk along with Corey Ledet Zydeco, Tuba Skinny, Mighty Soul Drivers, Old-Fashioned Aces, and Dustbowl Revival. On Saturday, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue topped the lineup that also included swamp blues rockers JJ Grey & Mofro as well as The Revelers, Donna The Buffalo, Son Little, and many more. Finally, the festival wrapped on Sunday as Greensky Bluegrass closed down Rhythm & Roots at the head of a daily bill which also featured The Infamous Strindusters, Robert Cray Band, Shinyribs, and others. Many of the non-headlining acts performed several sets throughout the weekend.
