Billy Strings held his annual Renewal two-day festival in Buena Vista, Colorado over the weekend. The first night featured Strings joined by members of Leftover Salmon and East Nash Grass.
Friday’s collaborations occurred during Strings’ second set. First up were Leftover Salmon guitarist Vince Herman and mandolinist Drew Emmitt. The pair of guest pickers assisted on a performance of the LoS song “Down In The Hollow,” with Emmitt handling lead vocals.
Later in the second set, Strings brought out banjo player Cory Walker and dobro player Gaven Largent of East Nash Grass to augment a performance of Chris Henry’s “West Dakota Rose.” Cory Walker is the brother of Jarrod Walker who plays mandolin in Strings’ band. Cory and Gaven stuck around for the subsequent “Old Swinging Bridge,” which was the first time Strings covered the song originally recorded by Glen Neaves and The Grayson County Boys. Largent sang lead on “Old Swinging Bridge.”
