Dave Matthews Band began their annual Labor Day Weekend run at The Gorge in Washington state on Friday night. The septet’s main set came to a powerful conclusion with Molly Tuttle and her Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway bandmate fiddler Bronwyn Keith-Hynes sitting in on three classics.
Both Briscoe and Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway served as opening acts on Friday. Dave Matthews emerged towards the end of Tuttle & Golden Highway’s set to guest on “Yosemite.” Matthews contributed to the studio version of the Tuttle original found on the recently released Golden Highway album City Of Gold. The DMB frontman also performed the song with Tuttle & Tim Reynolds in Riviera Maya, Mexico earlier this year.

Dave Matthews Band mixed songs that have been rare this tour including “Cry Freedom,” “Minarets,” “Seek Up” and “#27” with staples and four songs off their 2023 LP Walk Around The Moon for their main set at The Gorge on Friday. Matthews addressed the crowd towards the end of frame and discussed their roots in Charlottesville, Virginia. He introduced Bronwyn Keith-Hynes as a Charlottesville-based musician who wasn’t born yet at the time DMB was formed.
Keith-Hynes first added to the beloved favorite “Tripping Billies.” Bronywn brought back memories of DMB co-founder fiddler Boyd Tinsley who was a member of the group through 2018. She took an effusive solo towards the end of the song off 1995’s Crash.
Matthews then brought out Molly Tuttle as Keith-Hynes stuck around for “Spoon.” Molly Tuttle and Dave Matthews traded lead vocal duties as the nine musicians made their way through the Before These Crowded Streets cut. Bronywn Keith-Hynes engaged in a back-and-forth with the DMB horns — saxophonist Jeff Coffin and trumpeter Rashawn Ross to bring the song to a memorable conclusion.
The main set came to a close with Molly Tuttle and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes teaming with Dave Matthews Band on the oldie “Ants Marching.” Keith-Hynes played some of the licks Boyd Tinsley made such a key part of the song and Tuttle took an acoustic guitar solo. Matthews returned to start the encore with a solo “Little Red Bird” and then the rest of the band was back for a show-closing pairing of “Pig” and “Crush.”
