Watch Pearl Jam Cover Pink Floyd’s ‘Brain Damage’ For 1st Time In 13 Years

Eddie Vedder went solo for a cover of “Brain Damage” from the iconic Pink Floyd album Dark Side Of The Moon on Saturday during Pearl Jam‘s second of two tour-opening shows at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The partial version marked the first time “Brain Damage” had been played at a Pearl Jam show since June 25, 2010.

Vedder used the beginning of the Pink Floyd classic as a lead-in to “I Am Mine,” the lead single from Pearl Jam’s 2002 album Riot Act. The rare cover came towards the middle of the group’s main set on Saturday. “Brain Damage” wasn’t the only bust out played by Pearl Jam at their second show of 2023, as they also dusted off “Severed Hand” and “Got Some,” each of which was last performed in 2018.

Pearl Jam changed up the setlist in a big way from opening night on Thursday. “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town,” “Daughter,” “Even Flow,” “Porch” and “Alive” were the only songs trotted out at both shows in St. Paul.

Once again, the band started the evening in seated positions and then were standing on their feet after the fifth song. After making their way through an 18-song main set, Pearl Jam ended the night with a seven-song encore. Vedder delivered a solo take on Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” to kick off Saturday’s encore. A cover of “Last Kiss” came next along with the aforementioned “Got Some.” Pearl Jam then reeled off favorites “Jeremy,” “Better Man” and “Alive” before honoring Minnesota’s own Prince with a “Purple Rain” finale featuring members of Deep Sea Diver.
