Christmas Jam Reveals 2023 Lineup: Slash & Myles Kennedy, Billy F. Gibbons, Gov’t Mule, More

Though Halloween is right around the corner, Warren Haynes is already looking toward the holiday season with the announcement of the 2023 Christmas Jam lineup. The 32nd annual benefit concert in the Gov’t Mule guitarist’s hometown of Asheville, NC will feature headliners Slash & Myles Kennedy, Billy F. Gibbons, and Mule when it returns to the ExploreAsheville.com Arena on December 9th.

Also set to appear at Chrismas Jam 2023 are Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening, old-school alt-metal act Clutch, a rare performance from the original American Babies trio featuring Tom Hamilton, Jim Hamilton, and Joe Russo, a set from bassist Karina Rykman and her eponymous power trio, and more. As is tradition, the marathon concert will raise money for Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity as well as newly added 2022 beneficiary BeLoved Asheville.

“Christmas Jam is such a special event for me and my family and more than 30 years later, it’s still so exciting to see the dynamic talent that comes together for the community in my beloved home of Asheville,” Haynes shared. “After a few years off, following an extraordinary 2-night 30th Anniversary event, it felt great to return last year to continue the cause, which has and will always be: to have fun, play music, and celebrate being together while raising money for a local charity. This year is no exception. We’ve got longtime friends and collaborators, as well as new ones, on hand for a rockin’ and memorable evening, benefiting the housing needs of many in the region.”

In a new move for 2023, organizers will first offer in-person local pre-sale tickets at the arena box office beginning Saturday, October 21st at 9:00 a.m. ET. A nationwide pre-sale for tickets, including VIP and travel packages, will begin on Tuesday, October 24th at 10:00 a.m., with the public on-sale commencing Friday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. ET. Along with the lineup announcement, Haynes has detailed The Benefit Concert Volume 20 which documents the two-night 2018 Xmas Jam extravaganza. Set to arrive in a variety of formats on December 8th, The Benefit Concert Volume 20 captures highlights from December 7th and 8th, 2018 with performances by Dave Grohl, Eric Church, Joe Bonamassa, Jim James, Gov’t Mule, Grace Potter, Mike Gordon, and many more.

Among the many highlights are Grohl and Haynes teaming up for acoustic jam-friendly takes on Foo Fighters classics as well as the only onstage recreation of Grohl’s 45-minute epic “Play” to date, a trio of Haynes, Potter, and James covering Fleetwood Mac‘s “Gold Dust Woman”, Church showing off his rock chops on the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More”, and much more. The expansive live release will arrive on four different double vinyl sets (in different colors with different song selections) along with CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital formats and in a variety of combinations.

The 2018 Christmas Jam marked the 30th anniversary of the tradition that Haynes started in a local bar as a simple benefit concert featuring Asheville musicians. Over the next three decades, Xmas Jam grew in size and stature along with Haynes’ place in the live music world. After reaching a pinnacle with the two-night anniversary blowout, organizers took 2019 off for a much-needed break.

Any plans to return in 2020 and 2021 were thwarted by the pandemic, but Christmas Jam eventually made its triumphant return in 2022 in a single-night format. On hand to welcome back the annual tradition were Phil Lesh & Friends, Tyler Childers, Brothers Osborne, Dinosaur Jr., and more, along with holiday hosts Gov’t Mule.
