Deer Tick shared a fiery cover of Bruce Springsteen’s classic “Dancing In The Dark.” The single comes in advance of the band’s headlining Fall Tour 2023, which starts tomorrow.

The track follows the June release of Deer Tick’s latest studio album, Emotional Contracts, on ATO Records. Produced by Dave Fridmann, it was Deer Tick’s first album since 2017 and featured guest contributions from Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, as well as Courtney Marie Andrews, Carlton, Kam Franklin, Angela Miller and Sheree Smith.

Deer Tick recently recorded their self-described “raw, fervent” cover of “Dancing In The Dark” at the band’s studio in Providence, Rhode Island. Guitarist Ian O’Neil shared a statement regarding the song, which appeared on Bruce Springsteen’s landmark 1984 album, Born In The U.S.A.:

“For me, ‘Dancing In The Dark’ isn’t a song about romance, but instead a desperate plea to break out of some degraded, stagnant situation. The narrator is filled with angst, self doubt, and the only way out is to the sheer force of unwavering will power. Bruce really shows us who he is on this one and it looks an awful lot like the rest of us.”

Deer Tick’s Fall Tour 2023 kicks off tomorrow, Thursday, October 12 in Charleston, South Carolina. The run in support of Emotional Contracts will see the band performing across the United States and Canada, wrapping with two hometown concerts on November 24 and 25 in Providence.
