moe. guitarist Al Schnier and bassist Rob Derhak joined forces for a “moe.stly Acoustic” performance this past Sunday afternoon at Globe Hall in Denver. The pair loaded the setlist with career-spanning moe. originals and choice covers.

The “Daytime BBQ Show” came after moe. played Denver’s Ogden Theatre on Friday and Saturday nights. Schnier and Derhak last embarked on a duo tour in the fall of 2021. The longtime bandmates will support fellow moe. side project BlueStar Radiation from November 15 – 19 and then hit the road for shows November 30 – 3 including a slot opening for Spafford in Atlanta.

Al Schnier and Rob Derhak began Sunday’s show with classic moe. songs “Mexico” and “New York City.” The duo then played Schnier’s “Revolving Door” from his time in Floodwood before Derhak helmed “Blond Hair & Blue Eyes,” a tune he wrote about his daughter, Emma. The set rolled on with oldie “Time Again,” “Ups And Downs” off Rob’s solo pandemic album Songs For Other People and “Tailspin” from moe.’s The Conch (2007) LP.

Covers of Little Feat’s “Willin’” and The Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” were followed by the Schnier-penned “Understand.” A cute moment came next as Rob and Al recruited the children of a few fans who requested “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Pt. I” by The Flaming Lips to help sing the song. Schnier and Derhak ended the set by pulling off a seamless run connecting takes on Led Zeppelin’s “Over The Hills And Far Away” and Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” with moe. originals “Tambourine” and “Deep This Time.”
