Twiddle has been making a final round around the Northeast going indefinite hiatus later this year. After making stops in Providence, RI and Hampton Beach, NH, the Vermont-bred jam quartet stopped in Burlington for one last show in its home state at The Flynn Theater.
As anticipation of the band’s upcoming final shows at The Capitol Theatre builds, each show grows increasingly precious, and with the added hometown factor (really home state in this case), the conditions were set on Saturday for a very special one. Nineteen years after first coming together as students at Castleton State University in nearby Castleton, VT, Mihali Savoulidis, Ryan Dempsey, Zdenek Gubb, and newcomer Adrian Tramontano said farewell to the Green Mountain State with a sold-out, blowout musical celebration.
The show launched like a rocket with a 30-plus-minute “Gatsby the Great”, and the capacity crowd was very much along for the ride. The band and about 1,500 fans looked back on nearly two decades of connecting through music with songs from throughout Twiddle’s career, including “River Drift” from the band’s latest album, 2022’s Every Last Leaf, and older fan favorites “Jamflowman”, “Frankenfoote”, and “Apples”.

A free-flowing four-song encore capped off and encapsulated Twiddle’s Vermont send-off. Every Last Leaf track “Beautiful” fed into Twiddle classics “Hattie’s Jam” and “When it Rains it Poors”, and a solo piano “Rainbow Connection” by Ryan Dempsey offered a final moment of calm reflection before the finale, “Every Last Leaf 2”.
