Umphrey’s McGee Reveals Guest Drummers For New Year’s Eve Run

Umphrey’s McGee announced the trio of guest drummers that will help the band close out 2023 and their 25th anniversary year during their upcoming three-night New Year’s Run at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. Mike Portnoy, Rory Dolan and Ben Atkind will cover for UM drummer Kris Myers at the hometown shows on December 29, 30 and 31 (New Year’s Eve).

Kris Myers has been out of action since July as he continues his recovery from rotator cuff surgery. Progressive metal drummer Mike Portnoy, who co-founded Dream Theater before leaving the band in 2010, will take turns with lespecial‘s Rory Dolan behind the kit on December 29. lespecial serves as support on December 29 and 30. Dolan and Goose‘s Ben Atkind will share guest drummer duties on the 30th before Atkind jumps behind the kit on New Year’s Eve.

Ben Atkind is among the drummers who held down Myers’ seat over the past few months. Umphrey’s McGee released pro-shot video of Atkind behind the kit for a performance of “Small Strides” from their August 26, 2023 concert in Asheville.
