Watch Billy Strings Join Tool For Electrifying ‘Jambi’ In Salt Lake City

Tool continued their fall tour last night at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center, where guitarist Billy Strings made a surprise guest appearance early in the night. Strings shredded through “Jambi” with the legendary metal act.

While the Michigan native may be best known for his contemporary brand of jamgrass, he’s never hidden his love of hard-nosed music including metal. Billy emerged with electric guitar in hand after Tool finished “Fear Inoculum,” the tune that opened their 10-song performance. “Jambi” is featured on the band’s 2007 studio album 10,000 Days.

Strings had the day off on Wednesday following his show at the nearby Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. The guest spot came after Billy recently shared photos where he was hanging out with Tool drummer Danny Carey. He made the most of his time on stage by taking a memorable and extended solo on a Stratocaster-style guitar. Tool guitarist Adam Jones played the main riff while Strings was tearing it up and then the pair traded licks.

Tool went on to perform four more songs off their latest album, 2019’s Fear Inoculum, in addition to the title track used to open. 10,000 Days was also represented in last night’s setlist by “The Pot” and the recently revived “Rosetta Stoned.” Vocalist Maynard James Keenan, Carey, Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor closed their main set with classic “Forty Six & 2.” Danny Carey took a drum solo to begin an encore that also included “Culling Voices” and “Invincible.”

Billy Strings ends the first leg of his fall tour this weekend in Independence, Missouri. Tool performs tonight in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
