The second annual “For Those We Lost” concert was held last night at 3rd & Lindsley to raise money for the Nashville Musicians Association, AFM Local 257 Funeral Benefit Fund. The event honored Jimmy Buffett, Loretta Lynn, Jesse McReynolds, and other AFM 257 members who have passed since the first For Those We Lost concert in August 2022.

Performers included Mac McAnally and members of Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band; Loretta Lynn’s daughters, Patsy and Peggy, aka The Lynns; and The McCrary Sisters. Bluegrass icon Sam Bush and friends honored Jesse McReynolds as well.

The show started with sets from the Songwriters Guild of America and the New York Songwriters Collective. Performers will include Rick & Janis Carnes (with a double-diamond hit for Garth Brooks – “Long Neck Bottle,” as well as the platinum hit, “Can’t Even Get The Blues,” — Reba McEntire’s first number one.) The singer-songwriter duo recently lost their longtime songwriter friend Pete Luboff. Also on the bill were Eric Watkins (Molding) and Bobby Watkins (Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies). Peter Bliss (head of the New York Songwriters Collective, who’s had hit songs with Barbara Streisand and Peter Wolf/J. Geils Band), performed as well.

The event was livestreamed on Volume.com and can be viewed as an on-demand replay.

Once commonplace, AFM funeral benefits were designed to assist member beneficiaries with final costs. Now they have become a rarity — only Local 47 (Los Angeles) has a similar fund. This fundraiser had two purposes: To celebrate iconic members of Local 257 who have passed in the last year, and also to raise funds and awareness of the needs of our unsung musician members.

Necessary modifications have helped preserve this fund that many have relied on over the decades. However, COVID-19 dealt the fund a crushing blow, as more than twice the usual number of Local 257 members passed during the pandemic. Local 257 has paid over $400,000 to beneficiaries since 2020.

“We invite you to join us at 3rd & Lindsley on October 17 for an unforgettable night of music as we pay tribute to those we have lost,” Local 257 President Dave Pomeroy said.
