Watch Japanese Breakfast Debut Gorgeous Simon & Garfunkel Cover At Radio City

Japanese Breakfast made their debut at Radio City Music Hall last night with a sold-out concert at the iconic New York City venue. Michelle Zauner and company unveiled a breathtaking rendition of the location-appropriate Simon & Garfunkel song “The Only Living Boy In New York” during their encore.

New York City’s own Simon & Garfunkel released “The Only Living Boy In New York” as the B-side of their “Cecilia” single in 1970 and also included the track on their final studio album, Bridge Over Trouble Water, the same year. Paul Simon wrote the song purportedly as a message to Art Garfunkel.

Japanese Breakfast’s show at Radio City came one night after the band performed “Kokomo, IN” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Zauner will chat with Hua Hsu and perform at The New Yorker Festival tomorrow, Saturday, October 7.

“Kokomo, IN” is featured on the group’s latest album, 2021’s Jubilee. The song and seven others from the LP formed the bulk of the setlist on Thursday. “The Only Living Boy In New York” was fit between Jubilee’s “Posing For Cars” and “Diving Woman” off 2017’s Soft Sounds From Another Planet as the encore at Radio City.
