Watch John Mayer Discuss Dead & Company’s Future

Guitarist John Mayer may have had Monday off from his solo acoustic tour, but he kept busy with appearances on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. One of the topics Mayer talked about with host Andy Cohen on last night’s Watch What Happens Live was the future of Dead & Company.

The Grateful Dead offshoot embarked on The Final Tour this past summer but Mayer reiterated the band’s intention to perform together at some point. John Mayer took a question from a viewer who asked what the chances are he’d play with Dead & Company on the road again. “On the road is kind of an interesting question,” Mayer said as previously members both he and Mickey Hart left the door open for future shows as opposed to another tour.

“We will play shows — I have to believe that we love this music so much we’re gonna play shows — we just are trying to figure out what that looks like for the future,” stated Mayer. “Everyone has it in their hearts to keep playing.”

Andy Cohen, a Deadhead and longtime pal of John Mayer, suggested Dead & Company perform two weeks at The Sphere in reference to the Las Vegas venue opened by U2 last weekend. Mayer also looked back at his music catalog, noted his least favorite album, engaged in “Pillow Talk” with Cohen and played a game of “Phrased & Confused” featuring scrambled Grateful Dead song titles.
