Killer Mike appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday to close out the first week of the late night program following the writers’ strike. The Run The Jewels MC performed “Motherless,” a tribute to his late mother and grandmother featuring Robert Glasper and Eryn Allen Kane.
“Motherless” appears on Killer Mike’s 2023 album, Michael, his first solo album in 11 years. Eryn Allen Kane appears on the studio version who along with renowned jazz pianist and producer Robert Glasper joined Mike for “Motherless” on Fallon.
The late night performance was a tribute to Killer Mike’s late mother Druzella Denise Clonts and late grandmother Bettie Clonts. “Doing something special for my mother and grandmother this Friday, with a little help from Eryn Allen Kane and Robert Glasper,” Killer Mike wrote on Twitter ahead of the Fallon play. The performance was also in memory of Glasper’s mother, Kim Yvette Glasper.
“Motherless” was naturally emotional and saw Killer Mike delivering the song through tears. Watch the moving performance below:
