Lake Street Dive kept their long history of posting cover videos on Halloween going with a version of “The Sign.” The chart-topping song was released by Swedish band Ace Of Base in 1993.
LSD’s Rachael Price, Bridget Kearney, Akie Bermiss and James Cornelison sported outfits straight out of the ’90s. Mike Calabrese honored the name of the song by dressing as a sign.
“The Sign” marks the first cover of a song from the 1990s Lake Street Dive has picked for their Halloween cover, though they did previously choose The B-52’s 1989 hit “Love Shack” and the 1988 Travelin’ Wilburys classic “Handle With Care.” Other past Lake Street Dive Halloween videos have included Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Second Hand News,” The Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down,” Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True,” Starland Vocal Band’s “Afternoon Delight” and and the Mamas & Papas-popularized “Dedicated To The One I Love.”
“When it occurred to us to be Ace of Base for Halloween this year there was a collective sense of ‘DUH! How have we not already done that?!’ This song is a total jam and 90s fashion is SO FUN,” explained Lake Street Dive in a note accompanying the 2023 Halloween video. “The only problem to solve was what to do with our fifth band member since there are only four members in Ace of Base. Mike had the ingenious idea that he would dress up as the titular ‘Sign’ and he went to the craft store and handmade his costume.”
