My Morning Jacket’s Fall Tour 2023 continued on Tuesday night with a concert at Boston’s Roadrunner. Singer-songwriter Madi Diaz, who is on tour in support of the band, was once again brought out to sit in with the headliners.
Tuesday’s show saw Diaz emerge near the middle of the main set to join frontman Jim James in singing “Thank You Too!” from My Morning Jacket’s 2008 album, Evil Urges. Diaz also joined MMJ during their just-completed run at The Beacon Theatre in New York City, accompanying the band on Yusuf/Cat Stevens’ classic “The Wind” and Jacket’s “I Will Be There When You Die.”

While some shows on the tour feature full performances of the band’s 2003 album, It Still Moves, last night’s setlist featured just two songs from the record being celebrated for its 20th anniversary as “Mahgeetah” landed in the main set and “Dancefloors” closed out the show.
The night began with Evil Urges companions “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 1” and “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2.” The band played the Evil Urges title track prior to Diaz’s appearance.
Pulling from across their deep catalog, My Morning Jacket drew from their 1999 debut The Tennessee Fire with “Evelyn Is Not Real” and “The Bear” as well as their 2021 self-titled LP with “In Color,” “Never in the Real World” and “Regularly Scheduled Programming.” Their 2005 album Z was well represented by the likes of “Gideon,” “Lay Low,” “Off The Record” and “Wordless Chorus.”
They layered in tracks off 2011’s Circuital as well as 2015’s The Waterfall and its 2020 sequel The Waterfall II. The encore began with the title track to their 2001 sophomore album, At Dawn, followed by the previously mentioned “Wordless Chorus” and “Dancefloors.”
My Morning Jacket’s tour continues with a concert tonight in Albany, New York. The band then heads to Birmingham, Alabama on October 30, followed by a Halloween concert in New Orleans on October 31. MMJ will perform in Atlanta with an It Still Moves celebration on November 3 followed by a show on November 4. The tour ends with stops in St. Louis on November 7 and a three-night stand at the Chicago Theatre November 9 – 11. Night one in Chicago will be another It Still Moves performance.
