Robert Plant sang “Stairway To Heaven” on Saturday for the first time since Led Zeppelin‘s 2007 reunion at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at the O2 Arena in London.
The rare performance took place during a benefit concert for The Cancer Platform organized by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, England. Plant joined a backing band comprised of Taylor, who shared his diagnosis of stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in 2022, his son Andy J. Taylor and Kenwyn House on guitar, Guy Pratt on bass, David Palmer on drums, Anne Rani on vocals, and Dino Jelusick on keyboards. He sang Led Zeppelin favorites “Thank You” and “Black Dog” before busting out “Stairway To Heaven.”
“Bet I enjoyed that more than him,” Taylor said after the unforgettable performance.
Plant responded, “Well, I know that in this contemporary age of digital stuff, there’s every likelihood that other people will see that. So, if they do I offer it up to you and your success and to the whole deal that has happened here and the future of it all. And also so that it’s not just that, I offer it up to Led Zeppelin. Wherever they are.”
Plant then shared some amusing memories of Donovan before singing “Season of the Witch” and Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth”.
