The String Cheese Incident welcomed the members of Goose, sans bassist Trevor Weekz, to help get their second set underway on Friday at Suwannee Hulaween. The assembled musicians worked through an original by each band for their two-song collaboration at Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida.

Goose was on hand for a late-night set on Friday at Hulaween’s The Hallows Stage. The band’s Rick Mitarotonda played guitar, Peter Anspach was on keys with Ben Atkind and Jeff Arevalo joining SCI’s Jason Hann in percussion world for the Goose song “Animal” to start The String Cheese Incident’s initial second set of the festival.

“Animal” was left unfinished when Cheese and Goose segued into the SCI classic “Texas.” Goose later closed out “Animal” during their own set. Mitarotonda shredded a solo, sang a verse and added harmonies to the song penned by Bill Nershi which dates back to 1995. Additionally, Anspach and SCI keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth engaged in a multiple call-and-response segments and Hann, Arevalo and Atkind dueled on percussion.

The members of Goose weren’t The String Cheese Incident’s only guests on Friday at Hulaween. Sacred steel specialist Roosevelt Collier joined the sextet at the end of their first set for a sequence linking a cover of The Allman Brothers Band instrumental “Hot ‘Lanta” with Cheese original “Outside Inside.” Collier’s appearance came after “Eventually,” the only song played on Friday from the recently released SCI studio album Lend Me A Hand. The rest of the setlist was heavy on fan favorites including “Search,” “Rollover,” “Valley Of The Jig” and “Rosie.”

As reported, The String Cheese Incident pulled off a covers and guest-filled Saturday Shebang headlining extravaganza. Then, on Sunday, the veteran jam act brought out guitarist John Stickley and violinist Lyndsay Pruett for a show-opening run of “Midnight Moonlight,” “Minor Swing” and “I Know You Rider.” SCI plays the first of three nights in Austin on Thursday.
