Eggy continued a four-night, four-city weekend swing on Saturday with a performance at Brooklyn Bowl. While the New Haven, CT quartet has notched a handful of performances at the Brooklyn, NY bowling alley/rock and roll venue as an opening act since 2019, this show marked Jake Brownstein (guitar, vocals), Dani Battat (keys, vocals), Mike Goodman (bass, vocals), and Alex Bailey‘s (drums, vocals) first time headlining the room. They and their fans met the momentous occasion with a sold-out performance that ranks as the biggest headlining show of their career.

Following an opening set by local favorite Stolen Gin, Eggy got rolling with the band’s defiant ode to a bowling master, “12 Pounds of Pain”, and never relented, playing straight through their allotted time for nearly two-and-a-half hours of uninterrupted music. The band’s rapid, continued evolution amid a busy national tour schedule was apparent throughout the night, from the explosive rendition of older favorite “All Wheels Turning” to a number of new songs—”Come Up Slow”, “A Moment’s Notice”, “Sweat Equity”, and “Smile”—that peeled back new layers of the band’s eclectic rock sound.

Eggy used its notably fluent “yes, and” attitude to channel a recent proclivity for Steely Dan tunes and a bit of local love into a “Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me)” debut—and, while we’re at it, that Big Lebowski Jesus promo we made for this show sorta reminds us of another song on Can’t Buy a Thrill, “Turn That Heartbeat Over Again” (i.e. “Oh, Michael. Oh, Jesus”), so may as well do that one for the first time, too.

Ahead of a sprawling “Wayless” encore that wove back into Steely Dan’s “Brooklyn” for thematic effect, Battat informed the sold-out crowd that Eggy would be back at Brooklyn Bowl on March 23rd, 2024 for a special Purim costume party (more details on that coming soon).

Eggy’s four-night stretch will wrap up on Sunday in Baltimore, MD. Later this month, the quartet will link up with Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country for a run of co-headlining tour dates. For a full list of upcoming Eggy tour dates, head here.
