Greensky Bluegrass joined forces with Holly Bowling for a weekend California run with The Infamous Stringdusters that culminated with a surprise appearance by Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins.
The run kicked off on Wednesday at Oakland’s Fox Theater, where GSBG and Holly Bowling’s collaborative “6reensky” set included a sit-in by Trey Anastasio Band trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman. Wednesday also witnessed an appearance by Andy Hall, who joined in on dobro for “Reuben’s Train” during the encore.
Thursday’s show at The Sound in Del Mar, CA featured more collaborations between Greensky Bluegrass and members of The Infamous Stringdusters, including a duet on “Salt Creek” featuring Dave Bruzza and Andy Falco, who also sat in on “Worry for You”. Jeremy Garrett also joined GSBG at the end of the band’s set for “What You Need”.
The run culminated on Friday at The Bellwether Los Angeles, CA. This time banjoist Chris Pandolfi sat in with Greensky, but it was a surprise appearance by Joel Cummins that made the show the highlight of the run. The Umphrey’s keyboardist sat in on “No Bread in the Breadbox” towards the end of the set, and the show ended on a high note with all of the Stringdusters joining 6reensky for a blowout encore comprised of “How Far I’d Fall for You” and “After Midnight”.
