Primus bassist Les Claypool will continue a tradition of Bay Area New Year’s Eve performances by ending 2023 with a Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz concert at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. While the project’s usual drummer, Stanton Moore, is booked with Galactic to play Tipitina’s in New Orleans on December 31, Claypool enlisted Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch to join him and fellow “Bastards” percussionist Mike Dillon and saxophonist Skerik at the Great American Music Hall.
“In 1990 when Primus dropped their album ‘Frizzle Fry’, I hit the basement and played along to the album multiple times,” wrote Deitch on social media. “Les Claypool brought a funk sensibility to rock music that resonated with me. It’s an honor to announce that I’m going to be performing with Les in San Francisco on NYE at Great American Music Hall!”
Last year, Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz held a two-night New Year’s Eve run in Napa, California to close out 2022. Renowned drummer Vinnie Colaiuta filled in for Stanton Moore in Napa.
Uncle Sea Monster will open the festivities on New Year’s Eve at Great American Music Hall. Tickets and VIP packages are on sale now. Buy Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz tickets via SeeTickets.US.
