American sculptor and experimental musician Lonnie Holley will play a series of shows around Australia in February 2024 alongside poet and spoken word artist Moor Mother and improvised jazz ensemble Irreversible Entanglements. The trio of visionary artists are headed to Perth Festival and Melbourne Recital Centre, and they’ve now announced a show in the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room.
Holley was last in Australia in September 2023 playing headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney and performing at the Wanderer festival in Pambula Beach. The septuagenarian’s forthcoming tour with Moor Mother and Irreversible Entanglements is presented by Mistletone. Find all the details below.
Lonnie Holley ft. Moor Mother – ‘I Am A Part of the Wonder’
Holley’s latest album, Oh Me Oh My, came out in March 2023 on Jagjaguwar. Moor Mother appears on the tracks ‘I Am A Part of the Wonder’ and ‘Earth Will Be There’. The record also features guest appearances from Bon Iver, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Sharon Van Etten, Rokia Koné and Jeff Parker.
Moor Mother has had a prolific few years. She released the albums Black Encyclopedia of the Air in 2021 and Jazz Codes in 2022 and collaborated with Armand Hammer’s billy woods on the 2020 LP, BRASS. Moor Mother’s Camae Ayewa is also a member of Irreversible Entanglements, whose latest album, Open the Gates, came out in 2021.
