Did you know that electronic producer/pianist LP Giobbi and Alex Hargreaves, the fiddler for Billy Strings, grew up together in Oregon? We didn’t either until LP posted a gem of a home video to her social media accounts on Monday.
In the clip, young Giobbi, on piano, and Hargreaves, on violin, work their way through a duet on Johann Sebastian Bach‘s 1725 “Menuet No. 7, BWV Anhang 116” from Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. That might sound impressive, but anyone who’s taken a beginner’s violin class likely knows the composition as “Minuet 2”, one of the earliest pieces students learn in the widely adopted “Suzuki method.” A true throwback to the earliest days of LP and Alex’s music journeys, the adorable clip shows how far these two professional musicians have come.
As Giobbi said of the clip in her post, “I grew up with [Alex Hargreaves] who is now a world renowned fiddle player, is in [Billy Strings’] band and such a kind human. My mom recently sent me this gem of 5 year old Alex slaying and me trying to keep up 
.”
Both LP Giobbi and Alex Hargreaves are far past their Suzuki days and on to making waves in the music world. Giobbi recently released her debut album, Light Places, and maintains a busy tour schedule with her own shows as well as concerts and workshops in association with her 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Femme House, which aims to foster more equitable opportunity for women and gender-expansive individuals in the technical and behind-the-scenes areas of music. In January 2024, she’ll bring her Grateful Dead-themed Dead House set to Mexico as part of the Dead Ahead destination festival. Hargreaves has been busy on the road playing arenas with Billy Strings. He recently assumed the role of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for a professional wrestling-themed Halloween show at Grand Rapids, MI’s Van Andel Arena billed as the Van Andel Scramble.
