Pigeons Playing Ping Pong combined covers of Talking Heads and Radiohead during the band’s Talking Radioheads Halloween shows in New Orleans and Austin. The band also announced a run of winter tour dates with Tand and Underground Springhouse, with tickets on sale Friday, November 3rd.
Pigeons kicked off the run on Sunday at Tipitina’s in New Orleans, where the band played Radiohead covers “Fake Plastic Trees”, “Airbag”, “Karma Police”, and “Creep”, as well as Talking Heads songs “Wild Wild Life”, “Crosseyed and Painless”, “Once in a Lifetime”, “Girlfriend Is Better”, and “And She Was”, plus some originals.
The band then headed to the Historic Scoot Inn in Austin, TX on the 31st, which doubled as both Halloween and the birthday of Pigeons frontman Greg Ormont. After an opening set from Dogs in a Pile, the show began with his bandmates and fans joining together to sing “Happy Birthday” before transitioning to the first jam of the night, “Move Like That”, which flowed into the first cover of the night, Radiohead’s “Just”.
The band continued to mix originals with songs from Radiohead and Talking Heads, including “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)”, with Dogs in a Pile guitarist Brian Murray, “Paranoid Android”, “Psycho Killer”, and “Subterranean Homesick Alien”, which featured Dogs keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan. Kaplan returned for a second set-closing “Making Flippy Floppy”, and Pigeons capped off the night with “Doc” as the encore.

Following Tuesday’s Halloween show, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong announced a winter run with tour dates around the South beginning in Savannah, GA on February 14th. The tour will make stops in Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee before concluding with two nights in Atlanta on February 23rd and 24th.
