Porno For Pyros, the beloved but short-lived ’90s alt-rock outfit that recently reunited after a decades-long hiatus, has announced a re-tooled 2024 tour behind in support of its forthcoming EP of new material. Don’t get used to Porno For Pyros being back, though: The band also announced that the outing will serve as its “Farewell Tour.”

Porno for Pyros formed in 1992 following the break-up of Jane’s Addiction. The band featured former Jane’s Addiction members Perry Farrell (vocals) and Stephen Perkins (drums) in addition to Peter DiStefano (guitar) and Martyn LeNoble (bass) until LeNoble was replaced by Mike Watt in 1995. The band released two studio albums, Porno for Pyros (1993) and Good God’s Urge (1996), before going on hiatus in 1998.

The group’s recent comeback has been something of a whirlwind. In 2022, the band reunited last-minute for the first time in 24 years to fill Jane’s Addiction’s slot at Welcome To Rockville when Dave Navarro had to bow out due to COVID-19. The band has played a few scattered appearances since then including a slot at the 2022 edition of Chicago’s Lollapalooza, the festival Farrell founded back in 1991.

In July of 2023, the band—comprised of Farrell, Perkins, and DiStefanoannounced a full-fledged tour in October and November of 2023 in support of a forthcoming album. Billed as Horns, Thorns en Halos, the outing was due to mark the first Porno For Pyros tour in 25 years. In late September, however, less than two weeks before the tour was due to begin, the band abruptly canceled the shows and refunded ticket-holders. In a statement to fans, the band cited recording delays on the new material as the reason for the change of tour plans. Read the full statement from the band below:

Petrons, We are beyond thankful for all of your support these last 30 years, and are anxious to celebrate our 30th anniversary with you. Whilst rehearsing for our first tour in 25 years, we’ve also been in the studio creating new music – that we were hoping to get to you in time for these shows. Unfortunately, we have had to move the dates for the upcoming tour as we were not able to begin our campaign in time. So, we’ve pushed the tour a few months from now, in order for everyone to hear and appreciate the new material that is finally finished. Listen up for the new music in the upcoming weeks and keep an eye out for new tour dates. We’re coming!

On Tuesday, the band sparked speculation that rescheduled tour dates were coming with the announcement of the delayed album’s first single, “Agua”, due out on Thursday, November 16th (pre-save here).

“Now we’re here, and that same heart, that same desire to make music together, has returned” Farrell said of the recording process for the new material. “Getting together with these guys has been some of the most fun, the happiest times in my life”. Originally inspired by the band members’ close encounters with dolphins on their globe-trotting surfing trips of the ‘90s, “Agua” reflects their contemporary environmental concerns. The single is part of a forthcoming self-released EP set to drop in 2024 ahead of the band’s touring run.

The new tour, now set to run from February 13th–March 10th, 2024, is far from a “rescheduled” version of the old schedule: Just five out of the 16 venues on the new itinerary appeared on the initial tour announcement. Some of those remaining 11 alternate stops represent venue changes in a previously announced market, but many represent new markets altogether.

The billing for attempt number two at the Horns, Thorns en Halos tour, produced by Live Nation, also features another notable tweak: It’s now being marketed as the band’s “Farewell Tour.” As Porno For Pyros noted in a post about the 2024 tour, “At long last, the final farewell. It will be a blaze of glory, one magnificent ball of fire. This is the final chapter for all the weirdos and unsung heroes. We can’t wait to share these final performances with you. Let’s give it everything we’ve got!”

People who purchased tickets to the canceled 2023 Porno For Pyros tour will have exclusive first access to a pre-sale for the 2024 dates beginning today, Wednesday, November 15th, at 12:00 p.m. local venue time.
