On Friday night, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame hosted its 2023 induction ceremony at Brooklyn, NY’s Barclays Center. The star-studded affair, which fans at home were able to stream live for the first time ever, honored 2023 performer inductees Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Rage Against The Machine, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, and The Spinners with more than four hours worth of speeches and special performances.
Among the many star-studded performances was new inductee Sheryl Crow’s celebratory set, which featured guest spots by Olivia Rodrigo (for “If It Makes You Happy“), Stevie Nicks (for “Strong Enough”, “Every Day Is A Winding Road”), and Peter Frampton (“Every Day Is A Winding Road”). The appearance of Frampton, who continues to fight degenerative disorder Inclusion Body Myositis, stayed seated for his performance but looked no less nimble than ever on six strings as he wailed away on the hit from Crow’s self-titled 1996 album.

Crow, who was inducted by actress Laura Dern, a close friend, also gave an empowering speech that accepted the honor with grace while asserting that she still has plenty left in the tank: “It’s a little bit like winning an Oscar for a screenplay you haven’t finished writing yet.”
Elsewhere in the show, Crow joined fellow inductee Willie Nelson for “Crazy” and “On The Road Again” and took part in a rendition of The Band‘s “The Weight” with Brittany Howard, Chris Stapleton, and Elton John in honor of late Rock Hall member Robbie Robertson.

In addition to performer inductees Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, Rage Against The Machine, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, and The Spinners, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony recognized Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, who received the Ahmet Ertegun Award; a pair of Musical Influence Award recipients, DJ Kool Herc, the New York DJ widely credited as the “father of hip-hop,” and Link Wray, the guitarist best known as the originator of the power chord; and Musical Excellence Award honorees Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin. Live performers and presenters at the ceremony included Carrie Underwood, Elton John, H.E.R., New Edition, St. Vincent, and more.
