Steve Lacy and Unknown Mortal Orchestra are among the big names on the 2024 Laneway festival lineup. In the midst of the festival tour – which is set to visit Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth in early February – the two acts will both play solo headline shows at the Sydney Opera House.
Lacy, whose 2022 album, Gemini Rights, was the most successful of his career, will play two nights in a row at the harbourside venue – the shows on Wednesday, 31st January and Thursday, 1st February are open to all ages. Unknown Mortal Orchestra, led by Hawaiian/Māori New Zealander Ruban Nielson, will warm up the Concert Hall with an all ages show on Tuesday, 30th January.
Stave Lacy – ‘Bad Habit’
The 25-year-old Lacy released Gemini Rights, his major label debut, in July 2022. The single ‘Bad Habit’ was an ARIA top ten hit and has gained triple-platinum accreditation in Australia, while also going platinum in the UK and Canada. Lacy played a few Australian headline shows in November 2022, after he replaced Stormzy on the Spilt Milk festival lineup.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their fifth album, V, in May 2023. Neilson worked closely on the record with his brother, Kody Neilson (of The Mint Chicks and Opossum). It was the band’s first official LP since 2018’s Sex & Food, and featured trumpet, trombone and saxophone playing from the Neilson siblings’ father, Chris Nielson.
