Twiddle brought 18 years of touring to a close on Sunday with the final show of the band’s three-night Frendsgiving celebration at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.

The band’s last show was bittersweet for the dedicated army of fans who have supported the group since it formed at Vermont’s Castleton State College in 2004, though the end came as no surprise, as the band announced its impending hiatus in late 2022.

Twiddle played three emotional sets, with fan photo memories projected onto the Theatre’s walls and video boards between the sets. Kicking things off with “Be There”, the band rolled through several fan favorites in the first set including “Bronze Fingers”, “Fighting For”, and “Five”.

Set two opened with a fitting nod to the reason for the season by way of an explosive “Frends Theme”. The five-song set rolled on through an extended “Latin Tang” jam with a cover of Vulfpeck’s “Dean Town” featuring Scott Hannay on keys stuck in the middle. Guitarist Mihali Savoulidis then supplied some wireless magic as he surprised the crowd by playing in one of the Theatre’s booths. The remainder of the set featured a free-flowing sequence of “Apples” > “Doinkinbonk!!!” > “Apples” > “Doinkinbonk!!!”, with Primus‘ “Too Many Puppies” inserted before the end of “Doinkinbonk!!!”.

Returning to the stage for a third set, keyboardist Ryan Dempsey addressed the crowd:

“I don’t talk to the audience often, but I’ve been like crying all night because this is gonna be the last show for a long time, and I wanna thank you all,” he said holding back tears. “A lot of you say that, you know, we changed your life, but you changed my life too, so it’s a back and forth, and I thank you so much for all of your support, and I love you all.”

Set three, the last of the band’s pre-hiatus career, included deep jams on “Orlando’s” and “Jamflowman” as well as fiery fretwork from Mihali on “Frankenfoote”. “Gatsby The Great” and “The Box” carried the band to an emotional set-closing “Beautiful”.

The tears started to flow as the band returned to the stage one final time and capped off the evening with a reprise of “When it Rains it Pours” and the usual 2023 show-closer “Every Last Leaf”.

Livestream video-on-demand replay of all three shows is now available here through Tuesday, November 28th.
