ALO played the final two headlining concerts of their 25th anniversary year last Friday in Denver and Saturday in Salt Lake City. The quartet treated fans in Denver to a cover of Goose‘s “Honeybee” on Friday and were joined by former drummer Dave Brogan in SLC on Saturday.

“Honeybee” was initially performed by ALO at a wedding ceremony by request of the couple. The band — guitarist Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, multi-instrumentalist Zach Gill, drummer Ezra Lipp and bassist Steve Adams — played the Goose cover again in public towards the end of their first set at Cervantes’ Other Side on Friday.

Friday’s show also featured a heavy dose of classics including “Maria,” “Blew Out The Walls,” “Plastic Bubble,” “Cowboys And Chorus Girls” and “Wasting Time.” Old pal John Whooley joined the band on sax for both “I Love Music” and a “Cowboys And Chorus Girls” that swerved into a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Money” and back. “Honeybee” was debuted by Goose at their 2019 Goosemas concert in Norwalk, Connecticut.

While Friday was “A Furry Friday Freak Out” in which band members sported furry hats and encouraged fans to dress their funkiest, the concert at Salt Lake City’s Commonwealth Room was billed as a “Spooky Silver Saturday.” Brogan, who was behind the kit for ALO from 2002 to 2018, emerged for the second set with the band.

Dave Brogan started out on an extra percussion rig set up next to Lipp’s drum set. Brogan swapped spots with Ezra for a run of oldies “Barbeque,” “Fly” and “Wasting Time” towards the end of the frame. Ezra Lipp was back on drums to play the show-closing “Make It Back Home.”
