Foo Fighters return to Austin City Limits for the first time since the tragic loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins in the latest episode of the long-running PBS series.
Filmed last month, the hour-long performance features four songs from the band’s recent album, But Here We Are, which is nominated for three Grammy awards including Best Rock Album, as well as fan favorite “Times Like These”, “Aurora” (dedicated to Taylor Hawkins), “The Glass” (dedicated to Dave Grohl‘s late mother), and more recent cuts “No Son of Mine”, “La Dee Da”, and “The Sky Is a Neighborhood”. The set ends with Grohl delivering a powerful solo rendition of “Everlong”.
“Foo Fighters are survivors and soldiers, in the great tradition of rock ‘n’ roll,” said longtime ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “They have become valued members of the ACL family, and this show captures them as they begin a new chapter and a new adventure.”
Foo Fighters previously appeared on the program in 2009 and 2015. Highlights from the performances were compiled into an hour-long special released in 2021.
Foo Fighters recently performed on Saturday Night Live, where they welcomed H.E.R. to play But Here We Are track “The Glass”. H.E.R. released her own version of the song on Friday, the day before the episode’s premiere.
The Foos will finish the year with shows in Abu Dhabi and Australia, and next summer they will hit the road for a stadium tour beginning June 13th in Manchester, U.K., before returning stateside for North American dates starting July 17th at New York’s Citi Field.
