Shred-funk four-piece One Time Weekend returned home to Hartford, CT earlier this month for a guest-filled show at Infinity Hall. Dubbed the Masquerade of Madness in honor of the band’s new single of the same name, the themed concert now available on YouTube saw One Time Weekend welcome guitarist Brandon “Taz” NiederauerTwiddle bassist Zdenek Gubb, the West End Blend horns, and more.

Though the show took place back on December 2nd, One Time Weekend was already in the Christmas spirit, inviting young shredder Taz up for a cover of “We Three Kings” as transcribed by guitarist Steve Ouimette, best known for his performance of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Taz opened the floodgate of special guests, with the West End Blend horns joining on the following “Circles Around The Sun” and Gubb jumping up for the next “Omelet”.

Gubb was greeted by a familiar face onstage, with keyboardist Scott Hannay (Mihali) sitting in for the entire show. Hannay frequently sat in with Twiddle on the band’s recent farewell tour, sharing keyboard duties with Ryan Dempsy. The first set closed out with a cover of Cake‘s “Love You Madly” with all of the guests on deck in addition to Jelly drummer Nate Lawson—who pulled double duty by sitting in with OTW ahead of Jelly’s impending after-show across the street.

Following a brief intermission, One Time Weekend returned to welcome its friends back to the show that never ends with a cover of Emerson, Lake & Palmer‘s “Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression–Part 2”. The group churned through originals “Cosmic Fish Fry”, “Skoopskie Potato”, an extended “Braveone”, “Sonder”, and “Fire It Up” before inviting the West End Blend horns back for “Dr. Funk”.

Gubb and Taz both came back for more on OTW’s “Crypto Joe” before Gubb—who made a wardrobe change to a wrestling singlet—took over the mic to lead the band through Rammstein‘s “Du Hast”. Perhaps the most well-known song from the German industrial metal powerhouse, Gubb previously performed it at a ’90s tribute set with members of The WerksDopapod, and Twiddle in 2017. Clearing the stage of special guests, the second set fittingly wrapped up with the titular “Masquerade of Madness”, preceding an encore of “Cavity” and the show-closing “One Time Weekend”.
