Eggy and Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country have been keeping things communal throughout their co-headlining tour of the South, with members of each band joining the other for extended explorations at various stops along the way. On Wednesday night in Mobile, AL, the pair of fast-rising groups treated fans to the most collaborative summit yet, trading sit-ins during the two main sets and switching bands entirely for the evening’s encore.

First, during Eggy’s set, the New Haven, CT quartet brought out Daniel Donato on guitar to face off with Jake Brownstein on a cover of Chuck Berry classic “Let It Rock”. After clearing out for a few songs, Donato returned to the stage for the final number of the set to add his cosmic sound to longtime Eggy staple “Graceless”. Later, during Cosmic Country’s set, Donato and company brought Brownstein and Eggy keyboardist Dani Battat into the fold to assist on a cover of Merle Haggard‘s “Workin’ Man Blues”.

After Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country closed with “Ten Feet of Rope” featuring bassist Will “Mustang” McGee on vocals and promptly left the stage, the Mobile audience howled for one more song. They wound up getting their wish, though perhaps not in the form they might have imagined: Rather than opting for one more Cosmic Country song or another collaborative number, the collective sent Eggy back out to perform an encore rendition of the band’s appropriately country-tinged original “Sweat Equity” on Cosmic Country’s instruments, bringing the co-headlining evening full-circle.

“[Thank] you for what was one of the more intense and wired CC shows that comes to my recent memory,” Donato said of the night in a Facebook post. “Some shows, by synchronous happenstance, lean towards certain sides of the spectrum over others, seemingly without much choice by the conduits of the Music themselves. Thank you to Eggy for having me up on stage with them twice, and for closing out the show with their song I love, ‘Sweat Equity.’”

The two bands will make their way through Texas next for shows in Houston (12/7), Austin (12/8), and Dallas (12/9) before continuing on to Oklahoma City, OK (12/10), Fayetteville, AR (12/12), and Memphis, TN (12/13) over the course of this coming week.
