DJ Williams pays tribute to his beloved local Denver music community in the new video for his cover of The Doors‘ “Light My Fire”. The guitarist and songwriter’s unique take on the ’60s classic appears on Williams’ latest album, Soldier of Love, and features contributions from Kanika Moore (Doom Flamingo) and members of Lettuce.
Taking a trip through the historic Five Points neighborhood, Williams and his crew stop by local hot spots Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom and The Yacht Club, arriving at a studio to kick it with local character Andy Frasco. Other Denver luminaries appear throughout the video as well including DJ Maddy O’Neal, live electronic duo Big Gigantic, and more.
Williams makes his mark on the classic rock staple by slowing it down to a laid-back, funky bounce pulsating with beats by Lettuce bandmates Adam Deitch (drums) and Eric “Benny” Bloom (trumpet). Washed out in new-age psychedelia, Williams and Moore share the mic to put a decidedly modern spin on the classic Doors gem.
Along with the cover, Williams is encouraging fans to take part in his #LightMyFire movement for positivity. Using the hashtag #LightMyFire, listeners can go on social media and share what lights the fire in their lives, whether it’s a hobby, relationship, motivation, or anything else that inspires them. The aim is to unite individuals and communities through music and shared experiences.
